Creating a podcast for your church is an extremely smart move. It opens up opportunities to reach people outside of your church body and it provides a very simple and easy way for your church body to be able to engage with your sermons on a regular basis. Creating a podcast can be a little bit confusing and, hopefully, Perelandra Sermons will help solve that problem. The initial build out of the Podcast portion of the app was just finished. The podcasting portion of the plugin will help you to set up the appropriate information for your podcast and properly create an iTunes and Google Play ready RSS feed. Once you have added sermons and set up the settings, it will be as easy as submitting the RSS feed URL to iTunes and Google Play and your Podcast will be good to go. The new podcast will automatically update with your newest sermon the minute that you publish the sermon on the website.
General Settings
Below is a screenshot of the general settings for creating a podcast. We will work to select defaults for you based on the website settings you have inputted in WordPress. For example, we will default the title of the podcast to be the title of your Website that is set in “Settings->General.” All of these options will be overridable, but the smarter that we can be at estimating what you might want, the less you will have to do.
Specific Sermon Podcast Details
Below is a screenshot of editing a specific sermon and the podcast details that will be available to you. As you can see, you will be able to define which type of sermon you would like to publish, display the series image instead of the single sermon image, and more. Just like in the general settings, Perelandra Sermons will work to guess what you might want to display and set up some defaults for you. Some of you may be noticing the Explicit status. We only put this there to ensure that your podcast has everything it needs to be properly submitted to iTunes and Google Play. These statuses will always default to “not explicit.”
I will be working on submitting my own podcast which will consist of the Perelandra VideoCasts that I will be creating. Once that happens, I will upload some screenshots and a video of the process of creating and submitting a Podcast to iTunes. Please let me know what you think in the comments!
